THE NUCLEUS - THE NETWORKING HUB OF SOUTH CAMBRIDGE

It is just over a year since Professor Alison Richard, Vice Chancellor of Cambridge University, officially opened Chesterford Research Park's central facilities building 'The Nucleus'. The last twelve months have seen the Nucleus not only provide Park tenants with unrivalled facilities, but it has also become a hugely popular venue for other regional events.

Katherine Maguire, Park Manager at Chesterford Research Park comments, "Whilst the Nucleus is first and foremost a facility for tenants, the building has a real wow factor and visitors to the Park have provided us with some really fantastic feedback. We've been inundated with enquiries and bookings to use the Nucleus for events. The covered veranda is ideal for summer barbeques and evenings combining use of the golf course with a barbeque have been popular."

On the 12 July 2006, the Great Eastern Investment Forum held a conference and barbeque at the Park. Over 150 participants attended, including representatives from the DTi, regional early stage companies who have recently secured funding, investors, bankers, lawyers and fund managers.

On the 8 and 9 May, the UK Science Park Association hosted a two day conference for its members. The conference also included a dinner at Jesus College, Cambridge University. Hot on its heels (10-12 May) followed the ERBI conference and the evening reception was held at Chesterford Research Park for the first time this year. The conference included talks from biotech pioneers such as Sheridan Snyder, co-founder of Genzyme and over 30 presentations showcasing Cambridge's leading biotech companies. The evening's entertainment at The Nucleus included casino tables and a waitress on stilts.

And on the 29 June, Cambridge University hosted a Symposium associated with the Master's in Bioscience Enterprise Programme, a one year MPhil programme at the Institute of Biotechnology within the University. The course provides a cross-disciplinary education for post graduate bio entrepreneurs and future leaders of the Life Sciences sector. Cambridge University has also made advance bookings for next year.
